Agents spotted the .45 caliber handgun and seven bullets in the man's carry-on luggage as it went through the X-ray machine at the Westchester Airport on Monday, Feb. 13, TSA said.

Westchester County Police took the gun and arrested the man on weapons charges. They did not release the man's name.

Along with the criminal charges, the man faces a potential $15,000 fine as the penalty for bringing a weapon to an airport was recently increased, TSA said.

The Connecticut man, a resident of Southbury in New Haven County whose name was not released, also has the dubious distinction of being the first person busted for bringing a gun to the Westchester Airport this year, the agency said.
